Course Summary

Understanding Urodynamics is a focused educational course designed to provide obstetricians and gynaecologists with a practical understanding of urodynamic testing and its role in the assessment of lower urinary tract symptoms.

The course will cover when urodynamics are indicated, how different components of the test are performed and interpreted, and how findings can support clinical decision-making. Sessions will include voiding studies, cystometry, video urodynamics, urethral pressure profilometry, complications, case-based discussion, and governance aspects including consent, training and audit.

The course is designed to be clinically relevant, case-based, and suitable for both online and in-person delivery.

1. Understand the main indications for urodynamic testing in gynaecological and urogynecological practice.
2. Recognise which patients are likely to benefit from urodynamic assessment before treatment or surgery.
3. Understand the principles of voiding studies and their role in assessing bladder emptying and flow patterns.
4. Describe the key components of cystometry, including filling and voiding phases.
5. Appreciate the role of video urodynamics in selected clinical scenarios.
6. Understand the purpose and limitations of urethral pressure profilometry.
